Nestled in a rugged coastal landscape, Boon Residence is an elegant, energy-efficient home designed by Naked Architecture and built by Phil Kelleher Homes. Created for young retirees, the residence balances comfort, sustainability and bushfire resilience, all while harmonising with its natural environment. Busselton Aluminium Windows were engaged to fabricate and install the home’s windows and doors. With their proven expertise and commitment to quality, they delivered a suite of Capral Aluminium systems that met the functional and aesthetic objectives of both the architect and homeowner.
“The key objective was to create a contemporary home that felt at ease within its rural, coastal setting,” explains Clayton Lindley of Naked Architecture. “The design was shaped by the site’s orientation, surrounding views, prevailing breezes, natural slope and street access. All while incorporating materials with low combustibility to ensure bushfire resilience.” Capral Aluminium systems were selected to support these goals, offering energy efficiency, bushfire resistance, and acoustic performance to enhance year-round comfort and liveability. The home features a range of Capral products, including the AGS Commercial 425 Narrowline Double Glazed (101.6mm), AGS Commercial 50 Awning Sash, AGS Commercial 225 Hinged Door, and AGS Commercial 900 High Performance Sliding Door.
At the front of the home, the AGS Commercial 425 Narrowline system was used to maximise expansive views while meeting stringent bushfire safety requirements. A key feature of this system is its BAL-40 certification, delivering bushfire resistance essential for high-risk zones such as Boon Residence.
The AGS Commercial 225 Hinged Door and AGS Commercial 900 High Performance Sliding Door were also incorporated throughout the home. The 900 Series Sliding Door was used to create a seamless connection between indoor living spaces and the backyard. Its large panel sizes provide uninterrupted views while ensuring smooth, durable operation. Ideal for relaxed, coastal living.
One of Boon Residence’s most striking design features is the custom timber and aluminium entrance door, supported by a Capral frame. This bold statement piece blends natural warmth with structural strength, perfectly complementing the home’s modern coastal aesthetic.
While the project encountered no major technical issues, construction during the COVID-19 pandemic required careful cost management and logistical planning to navigate material price fluctuations. Thanks to proactive coordination, the team maintained both build quality and project timelines.
The fabrication expertise of Busselton Aluminium Windows played a pivotal role in the project’s success. Their commitment to precision and quality craftsmanship ensured each Capral system was manufactured and installed to exacting standards. This attention to detail not only delivered optimal functionality across all windows and doors but also enhanced the home’s energy efficiency and bushfire resistance. Reinforcing its suitability for the coastal environment.
Boon Residence demonstrates sustainable, contemporary design, setting a benchmark for low-maintenance, energy-efficient coastal living. Through the integration of Capral’s premium aluminium window and door systems fabricated by Busselton Aluminium Windows, the home achieves durability, performance, and seamless design cohesion.
