We were approached by a bunch of enthusiastic kids from the Monash University high powered rocketry team. They showed me around their lab and hit me up for some free aluminium – which I was happy to promise them. They design and build all their own stuff and enter it into competitions around the world. The worst part about the tour was it left me feeling so jealous. But then again, I would never have had the technical brains to do what they do.
Behind the Scenes with the HPR Team
During our visit to their lab, the team showcased their cutting-edge designs and explained how they bring their ideas to life. From conceptual design to the construction of high-performance components, the students apply advanced engineering principles to every stage of development. Their enthusiasm and technical expertise were truly inspiring.
Of course, they had one critical request: aluminium. As a key material in aerospace and engineering applications, aluminium is prized for its lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant properties, making it the ideal choice for rocket components. At Capral, we were delighted to support these brilliant minds by donating materials to assist with their ambitious projects.
A Record-Breaking Launch
What does 8kg of solid rocket fuel look like when it burns in just 2 seconds? Check out the incredible video to witness the result: a rocket soaring to an altitude of 26,000 feet! These feats highlight the precision engineering and innovative spirit driving the HPR Team’s success.

Why Aluminium Matters in Aerospace
Aluminium plays a critical role in aerospace applications, including rocketry, due to its unique combination of properties:
- Lightweight: Minimises mass for optimal fuel efficiency.
- Strength and Durability: Withstands high stress and extreme conditions during flight.
- Corrosion Resistance: Ensures longevity and reliability, even in challenging environments.
- Machinability: Allows for precise manufacturing of intricate components.
Capral is proud to provide materials that meet these stringent demands, empowering the next generation of engineers to reach new heights—literally.
