In a move that reinforces its commitment to sustainable design and construction, leading façade and tiling systems provider Metz is collaborating with Capral Aluminium to incorporate LocAl®—Capral’s lower-carbon aluminium—into its product offering. This strategic alignment not only supports Metz ‘s environmental objectives but also highlights Capral’s growing role as a key enabler of lower-carbon aluminium solutions for the Australian construction sector.
Introduced by Capral in 2022, LocAl® is a lower-carbon aluminium offer available to Australian Manufacturers. Offering two product variants—LocAl® Green (8kg CO₂e/kg Al) and LocAl® Super Green (4kg CO₂e/kg Al)—the range is among the lowest carbon aluminium options available, and it is extruded right here in Australia. Metz were quick to embrace the offering, switching their locally extruded aluminum products to Capral’s LocAl Green in 2023.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to reduce the environmental footprint of our products,” said Ian Ellis, Metz Group CEO. “By specifying LocAl® aluminium from Capral, we’re able to offer our clients façade systems that not only deliver on performance and durability but also align with increasingly stringent sustainability goals. For us, it’s about taking tangible steps toward decarbonising the built environment.”
Capral’s LocAl® offering is underpinned by its certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), which assures customers that the aluminium they use is responsibly produced and sourced. In 2023, Capral became the only Australian aluminium extruder to be certified to both ASI’s Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard across its entire operation—an achievement that reflects a deep-rooted commitment to environmental, social and governance excellence.
“Partnering with Metz is a great example of how Australian manufacturers can lead the way in sustainable construction,” said Mark Murray Market Manager for Industrial Solutions at Capral. “With LocAl®, we’ve created an aluminium product that significantly reduces embodied carbon without sacrificing quality. We’re proud to support companies like Metz who are serious about making a positive impact.”
The Metz Capral collaboration also aligns with broader national priorities. Capral is an active licensee of the Australian Made Campaign, and all LocAl® products are extruded locally using primary aluminium with verifiable low-carbon credentials. This not only supports Australian jobs and industry but ensures full traceability and consistency for designers and specifiers.
For Metz, the environmental and ethical assurances of using LocAl® aluminium are increasingly crucial in securing specifications for major commercial and civic projects. With a growing emphasis on embodied carbon reporting and material transparency, using ASI-certified, low-carbon aluminium provides a measurable competitive advantage.
“We’re not just talking about sustainability—we’re engineering it into our systems,” added Ellis. “Our partnership with Capral means we can give architects and developers peace of mind that they’re choosing a truly responsible solution, made right here in Australia.”
As environmental expectations continue to rise, supply partnerships like this demonstrate how collaboration between local manufacturers can drive meaningful change. They deliver high-performance, sustainable solutions that are both future-ready and proudly Australian-made.
