For a network-client installation, the V6 application is installed onto both the server and the clients. The CRE8 database itself resides on the server along with the pricing.
When running an update, there are various items that could be part of an update.
Database – this includes products, components, extrusions, etc. This is updated at the server. All users access this same data.
Additional files – these are distributed with updates and can include exe updates, macro files, Qreports, etc. These will be updated on each client machine when it is run there.
Pricing – Capral supplies a price file for its software. This is updated at the server. All users access this same data.
All users in a network-client installation should run updates through the Deployment Platform (DP) to ensure all required files are installed at each client, otherwise some functionality may not work. This ensures that any additional files are installed locally on the client machines.
One user (nominated Administrator) should be responsible for updating the files on the server including the database and running price file updates.
This is relatively simple to configure in the Deployment Platform and is set up by right-clicking the icon in your toolbar and select Settings.
Deployment Platform (DP) Setup
All network-client users should have the DP setup as Network installation type.
Only the Administrator should also have the ‘Update Network Database’ checkbox checked. All other users should not have this checked.
When the Administrator runs the update, this will update the database on the server and also install any Additional files included in the update release such as V6 application updates, Release notes, Qreports, macro files, etc. on the server and client.
When the client users run the update, this will only install the Additional files on their client such as V6 application updates, Release notes, Qreports, macro files, etc. on the client.
Price File updates
When a price file is sent out, anyone can run this which will update the pricing in the database on the server. However, it would be best practise for the Administrator to do this.
